About Bertha Manning
Mrs. Bertha Manning, age 37 years, one of the best known and highly esteemed residents of the First Ward, died at her home on 9th street at 3:45 o'clock Tuesday morning after an illness of 14 weeks with a complication of diseases. Mrs. Manning first suffered an attack of pneumonia which later developed into tuberculosis, which was given as the cause of her death. Her sister, Mrs. Reuben Gillespie, has been at her bedside for the past three months.
Mrs. Manning was the widow of Rial Manning who died seven years ago. She was born in Cranberry township, June 28, 1867, the daughter of S.S. Miller a prominent farmer of that community who survives. Her mother died in 1870. (she was Emily Jane Sayers)
She is survived by three children: Ina, 15; Prentice, 13; and Beryle, 9. One brother H.A. Miller of Salina, two sisters, Mrs. Charles P. McDowell and Mrs. Reuben Gillespie survive.
Funeral services will be at the house at 10 o'clock on Thursday morning. Internment will be at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Cranberry township where her husband is buried.
