- ****** Mrs. Bertha Voelker, nee Thiessen, aged 60, passed away Tuesday noon of this week at the St; Joseph hospital, Milwaukee, where she had been confined for the past six months. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Claus Thiessen, pioneer residents of New Holstein, and was born March 17, 1876. Growing to womanhood in New Holstein, she was married in 1899 to Rudolph Schildhauer, the couple moving to Marshfield, where he was station agent for the Northwestern railroad. He died in 1903, and his widow, with her three children, Rudolph and Sabina, now of Milwaukee, and Walter, now of Niagara Falls, returned to New Holstein, where she operated a millinery store until 1906, when she was married to Valentine Voelker. The family moved to St. Anna on a farm. One child, Edgar, was born to them, now in Milwaukee. In 1921 Mr. Voelker retired and moved to New Holstein with his family, where they remained until 1931. Since that time they made Milwaukee their home. Mr. Voelker, preceded her in death in April, 1935. A brother, H. C. Thiessen of New Holstein, also survives her, as well a daughter of Mr. Voelker's first marriage, Mrs. Sarah Bodell of Chicago. Tri-County Record, July 30, 1936
