Bessie Colquhoun, here treated, is the daughter of Sir John Colquhoun of Luss, Kt. and his second wife Margaret Cunningham She is one of the children mentioned in their mother's last will and testament dated 17 February 1571: "Item, to my cousing the person of Eglischem j c. merkis, and ordanis the rest of my guids and geir to be disponit among my bairns — Thomas, Mr. Archibald, Bessie, and Gelis, at the sycht, discretion, and consideration of my said cousing, the parson, oversman."
