Notes for Bland (Blann) Shiflett,Sr.:
1751, Bland Shiflett of Orange County born. Proved by his approved Revolutionary War pension for service as a private in the Virginia Continental Army. Pension started 5 Feb 1834 at the age of 83.
1776-1781, Served in American Revolution, was present at seige of Yorktown.
Bland Shiflett is listed in the following Census Records: 1782 Albemarle Co Tax List as owning six cattle and one horse. 1785 Orange Co Census as having 4 white souls in his Household. 1787 Orange Co Tax list he is listed with 1 horse and 2 cattle. 1810 Orange Co Head of Household with 2 horses. 1820 Orange Co 1 male and 1 female over 45 years and 1 male 26 to 45 years old. 1830 Orange Co 1 male and 1 female between 70 and 80 in household. 1840 Greene Co 1 male and 1 female between 80 and 90 in household. In the Greene County Death Register there is a listing for the death of Bland Shiflett which gives the date as July 15, 1840. He is 89 years old at the time.

ON payroll of Capt Harris' Militia, Albemarle, 1781 Admitted as Private, serve 8 months $26.66 was his pension Certificate of Pension issued Feby 5, 1834 by ? Reynolds chap an Orange Courthouse, VA Applied for RW pension Aug 23, 1833 in Orange Co
Serve January 1778 for 1 month at the Albemarle Barracks under Capt Zachariah Herndon and Col Frances Taylor, returned him and in July of same year drafted fro a second tour of 1 month and served same tina and place under same officers for. Returned home, draft for another tour of 1 month making in the whole 4 months at the Barracks , last tour under Capr Holman Rice. Returned home, drafted for a Militia Tour of 2 mos. under Capt Isaac Davis and march from Albemalre County to Hanover and at Andersonos Mill joined the armies under General Martinburg, then to Spotsylvania Court House , then to the Rockson Ford in Culpeper County and joined General Wayne and marched to Boswells old "honey" and was discharged my time having expired in Louisia and returned home. Shortyl after was again drafted for a sec on term of 2 months - served under Capt John Harris and marched to Williamsburg and there joined General Wshington and marched from there to the siege of Yorktown.. Was in the siege, my term out and was discharged Oct 1781.
Received pension, Aug 23, 1833 while living in Orange County and was 82. He and wife Vina sold land in Albemarle Co. Nov. 1806; 124 acres for 120 pounds. He sign with his mark
