Bonnie (Kruzan) Bomba Fester passed away on Thursday, March 8, 2012 at the Manor at Elfindale. She was 97 years old, born June 3, 1914 in Warrensburg, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents, Minnie and John Kruzan; her two sisters, Josephine Major and Joyce Kruzan; and her three brothers, Jackie Kruzan, Robert Kruzan and David Kruzan. Also preceding her in death was her first husband, James Bomba of Racine and second husband Earl Fester of Springfield, MO. Surviving are her two children, Dr. Steven J. Bomba of Whitefish Bay, WI and wife Janet and Susan I. Bourne and her husband Elliott G. Bourne Jr. of Springfield, MO. She also has four grandchildren, Sarah Bardenwerper and husband Tom of Thiensville, WI, Ann Cook and children, Ashley and Austin of Minneapolis, MN, Mignon Thurow and husband Aaron and daughter Lydia and Emilie Scroggins and daughter, Sophie.

Bonnie was a very accomplished pianist earning a four year scholarship to the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana in 1932. She was, however, stymied by poor health due to severe working conditions to survive the depression. She married James Bomba at age 20 and asked for a winter coat in place of an engagement ring. Later in life she became a banker like her father, John Kruzan of Warrensburg, IL.

She was an active volunteer during her retirement years. She was a member of St. John's Auxiliary, the Springfield Symphony Guild, The President's Club at Drury University, an avid supporter of Springfield Little Theatre and a past member of the Advisory Board of KOZK public television. She was a member of First and Calvary Presbyterian Church. She had many hobbies. She enjoyed reading the Wall Street Journal, knitting, playing the piano and traveling.

Bonnie had a deep compassion for her family, especially her immediate family. She has shown much love, grace and mercy. Bonnie will be deeply missed by those who love her.

Visitation will be Friday, March 9, 2012 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 2756 S. Blackman Road, Springfield, MO. Funeral services will be at the church the following day at 10 a.m.
