Robert I. Kruzan, 78, of Decatur died 5:45 p.m. Saturday (May 17, 1997) in his home. Mr. Kruzan was born in Warrensburg, the son of John A. and Minnie B. Berman Kruzan. He started working for the Decatur public schools in 1947. From 1947 to 1951, he was an elementary and junior high school band director. From 1951 to 1957 he was the band director at Johns Hill Junior High, from 1957 to 1978 he was the band director at MacArthur High School and from 1983 to 1990 he was the band director at Harris Elementary School. He was a member and director of the Decatur Municipal Band, the leader of the Bob Kruzan Orchestra from 1947 to 1967, served as secretary of the Noon Kiwanis Club, was a member of Grace United Methodist Church for more than 55 years and was Hickory Point Township Assessor. Mr. Kruzan was an alumni of Millikin University, graduating in 1943. He received his master's degree from Millikin University and taught private music lessons there for many years. He served in the Air Force during World War II and was a member of the 519-520 AAF Band. He married Florence Weber in Pleasantville, N.J., on Dec. 2, 1945. Surviving are his wife; children, Mrs. Alan (April) Coutant of Chillicothe; Eric Kruzan and wife Lori of Maroa; Mrs. Michael (Karla) Walker of Decatur; sisters, Josephine Major of Hackensack, Minn.; Bonnie Fester of Springfield, Mo.; brother, David Kruzan of Dayton, Ohio; eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.
