About Borbala/Breindel Frankel

Borbala (like her father, as explained in his profile) appears to have gone alternatively by the surnames Schwartzkopf and Schwartz.

Borbala (was born with the name Schwartz), but later had her surname written as Schwartzkopf on the birth records of her children with Meir Frankel, though at least one of those children (Heinrich/Chaim) listed Borbala's surname as Schwartz on his marriage record.

Some question was raised as to whether the Borbala Schwartzkopf/Schwartz who was married to Meir Frankel was the same person as the daughter of Kalman Schwartz and Debora Reinitz.

Beyond the dual names addressed above, family stories also support the connection, though it is admittedly not 100% clear. Various books linked the family of Debora Schwartz nee Reinitz (Debora Schwartz) to Meir Frankel, though some people said that Debora was the one married to Meir.

The first two issues of the family history newsletter written in Hebrew, called Alei Zichron (http://jgsob.org/aleizikoroin.html) addresses this confusion and then concludes (in the second issue) that Borbala (whose Hebrew name was Breindl, not Debora, as her mother was named Debora) was the wife of Meir Frankel.

Based on the names of people on documents, this conclusion appears correct, though it is admittedly not 100% certain. Ideally, we would find a photo of Borbala's tombstone or maybe a copy of her marriage record that might list her parents' names, though neither have been located as of yet.

[Added by R. Just] PS to above. Actually I have a list of the matzeivos in Ujfeherto and Breindel whose father was Klonimus is on that list. The date matches the death record of Borbala Schvartzkopf wife of Meir Frankel.
