Spurious Pedigree

Without justification or explanation it has been claimed by at least one pedigree published by MyHeritage that the child treated here is the same person as Alexander Boyd who is said to be the son of Sir Robert Boyd and Margaret Thomson, and to have been born on 14 December 1725, at Kilmarnock in Ayrshire, Scotland. The pedigree published by My Heritage reads as follows: "Alexander Boyd was born on December 14 1725, in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, Scotland, to Sir Robert Boyd and Margaret Boyd. Alexander had one sibling: William Boyd. Alexander married Margaret Boyd in 1740, at age 14 in Cecil Co, Province of Maryland. They had one child: Francis Boyd. Alexander passed away on November 27 1780, at age 54 in W Notingham, Cecil Co, Maryand, USA. MyHeritage The source of MyHeritage's information is WikiTree

The Question of Identity

Robert Boyd, Glover in Kilmarnock, and his wife Margaret Thomson, had a child who was born on 14 December 1725 and baptised the same day. The name and sex of the child cannot be identified from the baptismal record, which reads as follows: "Robert Boyd Glover in Kilmk, and Margaret Thomson, both their 1st marriages, had their 5th child born on Tuesday Decr : 14 - 1725 . and baptized [space left for inserting the child's name] eodem die . by Mr Paisley in the Kirk at examination". The latin words "eodem die" which translates as "same day" confirm that this child was baptised on the day of its birth.
