Caleb was Cherokee.

Caleb Starr was born in 1822, the son of Ezekiel Starr, a Cherokee, and his wife Mary Upshaw, a white woman. The family emigrated to Indian Territory shortly before the Trail of Tears, arriving in May, 1834. [1] Caleb married Lucinda Griffin, also Cherokee, about 1842. They were the parents of three children Charles, George, and Joseph. He parented four other children, Sallie, James, Fannie, and Margaret with Betsy Keath, another Cherokee woman. Caleb appears on the 1851 Old Settler Roll living in Flint District. [2] Lucinda and her children appear on the 1851 Drennan Roll also in Flint District. [3] Betsy and daughter Sallie are also on the Drennan Roll in Flint District. [4] Caleb and Lucinda are found on the 1880 Cherokee census, still living in the Flint District. Caleb died January 13, 1886 and is buried at the Buffington Cemetery, Sequoyah County, Oklahoma. [5]
