Civil War Veteran, Corporal, Company F, 9th W.Va Infantry
My father, Ralph Badgley, son of Martha Donohue, one of Calvin's daughters, once told me that although he never knew his Grandpa, he remembered the family talking about him. He said that Calvin's service in the war was really hard on him and that he was never the same as before he entered the service.
Calvin's younger brother Salathiel was a Private in the 9th WV Infantry with Calvin and while Calvin was hospitalized with a severe case of measles, Salathiel was captured by the Confederates and sent to Andersonville Prison where he died. I believe that the loss of his younger brother, while he wasn't there to protect him, bothered Calvin for the rest of his life.
