About Capt. Alexander (2nd) Munro
CAPT. ALEXANDER was a British soldier who went with the East India Company and joined the Bengal Army as a Lieutenant and rose to the rank of a Captain in 1777.
While proceeding with an escort of 22 Sepoys from Kalpi, in Uttar Pradesh, to Join Col. Matthew Leslie’s camp, he was cut off by a large body of horse and foot and he & most of his party were killed on 4th July 1778.
Captain ALEXANDER MUNRO, left his Uncle Sir General HECTOR MUNRO, who continued to prosper through family connections within the East India Company, his possessions.
In a letter dated 9th June 1779 this was itemised as ‘three chests of Treasure containing as per Invoice & Bill of Lading enclosed Silver Argots Twenty Seven Thousand and Twenty Seven Rupees’.
