Benjamin Branch DAR Ancestor #: A013726 A Patriot for Virginia with the rank of Captain.
John W. Pritchett writes in Virginians - The Family History of John W. Pritchett:
Benjamin Branch III (-c.1785) was probably the Benjamin Branch Jr. of Amelia County who bought Lot 18 of Chesterfield County glebe land in December 1760. In June 1778 Benjamin bought 150 acres in Amelia County from West Anderson. In 1782 Amelia County listed Benjamin Branch an absentee landowner with twelve slaves. In 1783 Chesterfield County listed him head of a family of four with 16 blacks. Benjamin was captain of the Chesterfield County Militia and a high sheriff of Chesterfield County in 1784. In 1769 the Council made Branch a county justice.
According to a monument erected at "Willow Hill" to the memory of their son Thomas Branch, Benjamin Branch married Ann Bass. This was likely Ann Bass who married a Branch, though she would have been in her forties when Thomas was born.
After her death, he married second in Chesterfield County Mary (Epes) Worsham on 25 August (bond) 1773. She was the daughter of Francis Epes and Sarah Hamlin and widow of John Worsham III.
Benjamin died in Chesterfield County (will dated 19 April 1782 , recorded 3 July 1786 ) naming wife, Mary. Among the executors of his will was "kinsman" Edward Bass.
