David Whitehill, Sr. was the ninth child of James Whitehill and Rachel Cresswell, born in Salsbury Twp. On April 8, 1770, in Frederick, MD, he married Rachel Clemson, daughter of James Clemson and Margaret Heard. He received one half of his father's farm in Salsbury Twp., Lancaster Co., PA. In 1771 he was taxed for 200 acres, 1 horse, 1 cattle. In 1782, he was taxed for 292 acres, 5 horses and 4 cattle. In April 1789, he moved to Centre County, near Lemont, PA, where he purchased 1043 acres near the end of Nittany mountain. He was one of the first elders of the Slab Cabin Presbyterian Church and donated land to the church and the graveyard in 1795. He was a county official and a Captain in the Seventh Battalion of the Lancaster County Militia, Commanded by John Boyd, during the Revolutionary War. References to Capt.
