About Capt. & Dea. Thomas Bancroft, Jr.
Thomas “was an officer in King Philip’s Indian War, and a selectman several years. He lived in the westerly part of Reading, where was the ancient Bancroft homestead. He built the fourth house in West Parish near the Abr’m Temple place.”111

GEDCOM Note
LT Thomas Bancroft was a selectman of the town of Reading; entered the military service in 1675, in King Philips War, with Jonathon Poole being his captain. In 1676, Jonathon Poole and Thomas Bancroft petition the Governor and council proposing importanat changes in the policy of town management. In 1686, he was assessed to pay Indians for land occupied by the town. In 1694 he was a member of the first separate board of assessors. In 1695, Thomas Bancroft was on a committee to improve the church and make seats to best advantage.
