Ebenezer Humphrey was born July 3, 1741 in Oxford, Massachusetts. He was commissioned April 4, 1776, First Lieutenant, in Captain Jeremiah Kingsbury’s first Company, Colonel Jonathon Holman’s fifth regiment, Worcester County, Massachusetts militia, and September 25, 1778 as Captain of the same company and regiment. He was called out August 1, 1776 as First Lieutenant under Captain Abijah Lamb and Colonel Convers and served 4 months at Dobbs Ferry, Tarrytown, and North Castle New York. In the summer of 1777 he served as First Lieutenant under Captain Abijah Lamb and Colonel Cushing for 8 months and 26 days, he was at the Battle of Saratoga and was discharged November 29, 1777. In July of 1780 he served as Captain under Colonel Jacob Davis for 3 weeks and marched to Rhode Island on an alarm
On September 24, 1832, at the age of 91, Ebenezer Humphrey appeared in court to make his declaration under oath for pension benefits as passed by Congress June 7th, 1832. This summary of his service is taken from his first hand accont.
