ELISHA LATHROP

Elisha Lathrop was the son of Samuel Lathrop and his wife, Elizabeth Waterman. He was married (1) 31 Jan. 1732, Norwich/Franklin, New London Co., CT, to Margaret Sluman who died 10 Oct. 1742, Norwich, CT. They had children: Elias; Elijah (died age 7); Lebbeus; Thaddeus.

Elisha mar. (2) 23 Jan. 1743, Bozrah, CT, to Hannah Hough, dau. of Capt. John Hough and Hannah Denison. They had childen: Elijah; Elizabeth; Hannah; George; Sluman; Joshua (d. age 6 mo.); Joshua; Azariah; Denison; Samuel; Margaret; Elisha; William; Sarah; Anna; Infant.

Elisha Lathrop lived at Bozrah, CT, which was adjacent to Norwich, and all of the children were born there. Most of the family moved to Lebanon, NH before 1780.

He was mentioned in Lebanon Town notes on 30 Oct. 1780, as a member of the Committee of Safety during the Revolutionary War. He was a Captain and later a Major in the state and local militia, and was a justice of the peace. He died after being hit by a falling tree at age 73 years.

Elisha Lathrop was a descendant of Rev. John Lathrop who emigrated from England on the ship "Griffin" arriving 18 Sept. 1634, Boston, Massachusetts Colony. He established a church in Scituate, MA, and in 1639, established a church in Barnstable, MA. He died there 8 Nov. 1653. Contributed by cjc47
