About Capt Field Farrar Montgomery, CSA

Field Montgomery was born in Dixon County, Tennessee the son of John and Jane Montgomery. Moving to Louisiana in the late 1850's Field was practicing
law in East Carroll Parish when the Civil War broke out in 1861 enlisting in the 14th Infantry Company I. Field entered the service as a Lieutenant later promoted to Captain of his company ( Montgomery's Tiger Bayou Rifles ) getting wounded at Fraziers Farm. The 14th Infantry was present at the battles of 2nd Manassas, Chantilly, Harpers Ferry, Fredericksburg, Gettysburg ( Culps Hill ) Chancellorsville, The Wilderness and Petersburg. After the war ended Field returned to his law practice in Louisiana later becoming district judge and from 1865 until the reconstruction period he was a member of the State Legislature. In 1869 he was united in marriage to Miss Ella A Hunt a native of Jefferson County, Mississippi and daughter of Abijah and Mary W. (Walton) Hunt. In the 1870's Field purchased Gailliard Plantation where they made their home in East Carroll.

Field Farrar ( 1784- 1836 ) and Jane Dunn Strong ( 1783-1834 ) of Martin, Tennessee. Married in 1804. William Montgomery ( 1762- 1838 ) and Jane McMillan Montgomery ( 1764-1837 ) of Gallatin, Sumner, Tennessee. Married in 1788.
