About Capt. George Marion Sisson, (USA)

George Marion Sisson was educated in the common schools of Gallatin County, Kentucky. He farmed thirty-one acres of land. Annie Ruth Sisson quotes a "History of Kentucky," 1887, by Perrin, Battle & Kniffen, published by Battey & Co., 1887, page 885: "George B. Sisson [sic] was educated in the common schools of Gallatin County, and has followed farming all his life; he owns thirty-one acres of land. July 16, 1862, he entered the Federal Army, Company B, Seventh Kentucky Cavalry, as second lietenant in Gen. Nelson's division under command of Col. John K. Faulkner. He took part in the battle of Richmond, Ky., and was afterward transferred to Gen. Wolford's command for one year, then to the command of Gen. R.S. Granger, doing post duty at Nashville. He was taken prisoner at Dalton, Ga., and imprisoned at Villanow, same State, where he was paroled in October 1864. He rejoined his regiment at Nashville, and after the battle at that place was in the command of Gen. J.B. Wilosn, when he was promoted captain of the company. He served until the close of the war, when he was discharged at Edgefield, Tenn., July 10, 1865, since which time he has lived in Gallatin County. Politically Mr. Sisson is a Republican. He was appointed county assessor of Gallatin County. His wife is a member of the Baptist church." Annie adds that there was a "Scission Reunion in 1930 at George's house and all ten of his children were there with their children and grandchildren. He was an invalid with chronic rheumatism for 14 years before his death. George Marion Sisson was born 3 Apr 1839 in Switzerland Co., Indiana. He died 8 Jun 1897 in Gallatin County, Kentucky and was buried in Paint Lick Cem, Sugar Creek, , Kentucky. George Marion Sisson was a Republican and appointed county assessor. He enlisted in the Union Army on 16 August 1862, as a private, Co. B 7th Kentucky Cavalry. He was promoted through the ranks to Captain. After the War he returned to farming his 31 acres. He was an invalid with chronic rheumatism for 14 years before his death.
