...The Salmon Death Records records the death of a wife on 03/17/1731/32: "Capt Joseph Goldsmith's wife died" - name not given. His wife when he wrote his will on 05/22/1734 was named Sarah. The Salmon Records records the name of a wife in a marriage to the Capt (therefore not the son named Joseph) on Jan 12, 1736, just months before Joseph died. Her identity is unknown (to me). She was Hannah (__) [Case] [Mapes] Goldsmith.
Joseph Goldsmith, Jr. married Mary Mapes, the daughter of Jabez Mapes, on Jun 19, 1722 (Salmon Records) This Joseph, not his dad, was named executor of Jabez Mapes' will. (See NY Wills) Joseph, Sr. then married this Jabez Mapes' widow (third wife), Hannah (see above). So, he married his son's step mother-in-law.
His daughter, Hannah, married Ichabod Case (not William), Jul 17, 1725, as his third wife. There may have been an age difference, as Hannah was his third wife. The Salmon Records use the Goldsmith name for her indicating this was her first marriage. This Ichabod Case, in turn, was a natural son of the last wife of Joseph Goldsmith: Hannah (__) [Case] [Mapes] Goldsmith, from her first marriage to Theophilus Case. So "to be" step-sister married "to be" step-brother. (They married before their respective father and mother married.)

Page 7.--In the name of God, Amen. I, JOSEPH GOLDSMITH, of Southold, in Suffolk County, being in health. I leave to my son, Joshua Goldsmith, my dwelling house and all my lands and buildings thereon, And all my blacksmith tools and stock of iron, and all my coals, and two gold rings and one silver spoon, and all my books of account and wearing clothes. Abstracts of Wills, Vol XVI, Corrections Vol I Pg 128 PAGE 209.
Will of Joseph Goldsmith mentions wife Sarah.
____________
Salmon Records says "Capt" Joseph Goldsmith md wid Hannah Mapes 01/12/1736, which is AFTER the date of making this will. However, Salmon Death records shows wife (no name) of Capt Joseph Goldsmith, died 03/17/1732, BEFORE the making of this will. This suggests there was a wife, Sarah, named in the will, between 1732 and 1736....
