About Capt. James Perry Arrants, (USA)

James P. Arrants, husband of Anna S. Haymaker, son of Hezikiah and Submit Arrants, was born in Michigan. Moving as a boy to Defiance County, Ohio he enlisted there age 22 as a Second Lieutenant in Company K, 21st Ohio Volunteer Infantry on April 24, 1861, receiving his commission the next day. He served through the summer campaign, as a 100 day enlistee, before mustering out with the regiment, August 12, 1861 at Columbus, Ohio.

Following the first 100 days of war, James married Anna Haymaker, September 12th 1861 he had also set to work raising a company for three years service and was awarded with a promotion to Captain of Company E, 21st Ohio Volunteer Infantry at Findlay, Ohio on September 19, 1861.

He served with the company through the winter campaign in Kentucky before resigning his commission on April 9, 1862 due to poor health. He died at home in Defiance, Ohio soon afterwards.
