The son of James & Abigail (Morris) Peck, he married Mary Hitchcock, daughter of John & Abiah (Bassett) Hitchcock, on February 18, 1730.
Capt. James Peck's Company was the first company that went out of the Second Regiment commanded by the Honourable Corporal Roger Newton, Esq'r, under the command of Major John Hubbard in the Late Alarm of the Defense of Fort William Henry and parts adjacent August, 1757. He served a total of 18 days.
His original tombstone was along the North Wall of the Grove Street Cemetery. It is either missing or unreadable at this time. The inscription from "Inscriptions on Tombstones in New Haven, Conn. erected prior to 1800" was as follows:
