On June 4, 1714 John bought 500 acres in Hopewell, bounded E by Stony Brook, N by Samuel Davis, W by Capt. Hannel and S by Johannes Lawrenson. On March 7, 1715, John and wife Joanna of Newton sold 100 acres in Newton.

While I won't try to advise you on whether Mrs. Thomas Burrowes was a Hunt, I will clarify for you what we know of that John Hunt family. There is a deed, I believe dated 1714 (I have a transcription that I will check), in which John Hunt of Newtown,Queens County, NY, purchased 500 acres in Hopewell Township. I have plotted the location of the land, and it is a mile north of Pennington, lying on both sides of Rt. 31. I don't believe that John Hunt came to Hopewell. Two of his sons, however, divided this land: John II and Samuel. Their brother Edward lived about three miles west, and was known as "River Road" Edward. The fourth brother Ralph owned a tract of land further north, but there seems to be no body of descendants that would indicate he lived in, or remained in Hopewell.

John II was the father of Wilson Hunt, the several brothers who went to Rowan Co., NC, and Noah and John Hunt III who remained here in Hopewell.

Ralph Hunt and wife, who settled in the area of Newtown on Long Island, New York circa 1650s, reportedly had a son John (not named but described as a minor in Ralph's 1677 will). By deduction (and assuming a minor was under 21 at that time in history), John was born in or after 1656 (but probably not later than about 1662). Researcher submissions to the Latter Day Saints database suggest that John had a wife Joanna (as of about 1714, but I don't know if she was his first and only wife or whether she was the mother of his children). Some report that he had a daughter named Charity, and report that his other known children (sons Edward, John, Samuel and Ralph) were born anytime from 1685 to 1700 (based on guesstimates; apparently no one has found any birth or baptismal records?) in the area of Newtown. About 1715 or so, John, Joanna and children moved to the area of either Maidenhead or Hopewell, in the newly-formed Hunterdon County, New Jersey (across the Delaware River from Pennsylvania).

Brother

Edward Hunt was born circa 1635. He was the son of Raph Hunt of Middleburrough and Elizabeth Jessup.1 Edward Hunt married Elizabeth Hazard.2

Edward Hunt witnessed the will of Theophilus Phillips Sr. on 23 January 1688 at Queens County, New York; "Phillips, Theophilus, of Newtown. Life use of house and personal property to wife, Elizabeth, with remainder to son, Theophilus. To son, William, meadow on s. side of Long Neck, and to son Phillip part of meadow in Smith's meadow. Residue to daughters Hannah, Elizabeth, Mary, Anna, and expected child. Executors Wife and son, Theophilus. Witnesses: Daniel Phillips and George Wood. Overseers: father Townsend, brother Joseph Phillips, and brother Edward Hunt.

2 His estate was probated on 29 February 1715/16 at Queens County, New York.
