~MY ANCESTOR~

Son of JOHN & SUSANNA (COE) ALLING.

He was a Captain of the militia at New Haven. In 1709 he was a Justice at New Haven. Records of the Colony of Conn. show that Jonathan represented New Haven to the General Assemby in Hartford twenty-three times after 1730. In 1736 he was part of a committee to repair the Parish of New Cheshire in Wallingford and in 1744 he was part of a committee to repair the northern part of Branford. He married 1 Oct 1713 in New Haven SARAH SACKETT, daughter of LIEUT. JOHN & MARY (WOODING) SACKETT. Her tombstone can also be seen along the wall of the Grove St. Cemetery.

Capt. Jonathan Alling's will was dated May 25, 1767 and probated Aug. 4, 1775. Son, James Alling was executor. He gave to daughters, Mary Dickerman and Sarah Smith, 5 lbs. in addition to former gifts. Bequeaths were given to the heirs of eldest son, John, deceased; to sons, Jonathan, James, Joseph, Jesse, and Oliver, each 20 lbs.; to daughters Susanna and Rhoda Alling, 15 lbs. each.
