About Capt. Joseph Cabot, Jr.
Captain Joseph Cabot JR. 1746-1774, was a prominent merchant in Salem, Mass.. He was a native of Salem. He entered Harvard Collage in1760. The same year he left collage as he was punished for rude and insolent behavior towards the Tudor on the Sabbath.
1765 he was the master of the schooner The Two Brothers, which sailed to Palermo, the West Indies, and Portugal. When Joseph Sr , in 1767. he left 600 pounds to his namesake."including what he charged with in his books"he then took over the trading post.
Joseph Cabot Jr. and Rebbecca Orne were married, Aug 4, 1768, his new wife before their marriage had inherited an even large sum, . Shortly after they were married he and Rebecca paid his mother 1000 pounds for the families Manson House Shope and store and barn and wood house and homestead land. The property was one and one quarter lot. The dwelling building on Essex St. was described later as the finish house in Salem.
They had two children Rebecca Orne Cabot and Joseph Cabot.
