Joseph and his family lived in Montague township, near Nameneck, between the old village of Minisink and the Brick House on the Delaware.
Joseph Westbrook, the oldest son, was a prominent man in the the precinct of Walpeck, and was chosen Commissioner of Highways in 1757 and Freeholders in 1764. He occupied a leading position in the Namenach(Menissink) church and was a Deacon in 1761, Elder in 1764-1765 and 1772 and other years, and Treasurer in 1771. He was evidently Captain of Militia before the Revolution, as the church records note a meeting ofthe Consistory of the three united churches of Machackemech, Messinck and Walpeck in 1765 at the house of Capt. Joseph Westbrook, Elder of the Church of Namenach.
