Lewis Lawshe is the son of John Lawshe and Eleanor Chamberlain. Lewis Lawshe served in the War of 1812 and both Seminole Indian Wars under General Andrew Jackson.

He married Cherokee Hawkins on 10 August 1819 at Ft. Hawkins, Jones Co., GA. Cherokee Hawkins was born 16 March 1805 in Hawkinsville, GA, and died on 26 February 1849 in Water Valley, Yalobusha County, GA. She is the daughter of NC Senator Benjamin Hawkins and Lavinia Downs.

Daughter: Georgia Virginia Lawshe (Find A Grave Memorial# 6279065) married Col. Dr. Peter Cavanaugh Woods (Find A Grave Memorial# 23520178).

According to The Galveston Daily News (Jan. 8, 1874; p. 3): “Captain Lewis Lawshe, of San Marcos, is said to be the oldest Mason in Texas. He was endorsed by Perseverance Lodge, Northumberland, Penn., as a Master Mason in 1816.”
