Biography

Richard Case was born on 27 August 1669, in Windsor, Hartford, Connecticut, son of John Case and Sarah Spencer. He died on 27 April 1746, in Simsbury, Hartford, Connecticut Colony, British Colonial America, at the age of 76.

He registered for military service in 1710.

Richard Case was a member of the General Court, appointed Ensign in May, 1710, Lieutenant 5/12/1715 and Captain in 1716. (Duncan, p.5)

He married Amy Reade on 1 September 1701, in Simsbury, Hartford, Connecticut Colony Amy was born 3 Jan 1678/9 to Philip Reade and Abigail Rice and died 1746 at Simsbury, Connecticut.

  • I, Richard Case of Simsbury, in the County of Hartford, do make this my last will and testament:
  • I give to my wife Amy 1-2 of my homelott and orchard, that is, 1-2 of my tract of land that my house and barn stand upon. I give her the use of sd. homelott during her life, after my decease, with the use of the whole house and barn, for her use and profit during the term of her natural life; and also give to her 1-3 part of my moveable estate.
  • I give unto my son Timothy 1-2 of the forementioned homelott where my house and barn stand upon, after my decease, and the other half with the house and barn I give to my son Timothy after the decease of his mother, my wife Amy, to him and to his heirs forever.
  • I also give unto my son Timothy all my lands that belong unto me whereon he now lives, except 40 rods on the north side through the sd. lott and one mile in length, which I reserve for my son Edward.
  • I also give unto him, his heirs and assigns forever, 1-2 of my woodlott against Hazel Meadow, provided he pay his double part to my daughters with my two other sons Edward and Richard, provided my daughters have not their portion paid out of the moveables; or if I leave not moveables enough for their legacies or portions.
  • I give unto my son Richard all the remaining part of that lott of land upon Chesnut Hill where he now lives (that part which now belongs unto me), I give it unto him after my decease, provided he pay 1-4 part of that which is wanting in my moveables in my daughters' portions.
  • I give unto my son Edward the remaining part of that lott by my son Timothy, which is on the north side, 40 rods in width and one mile in length, taking in that piece of land that I have bought of Amos Case and Isaac Case. I also give unto him and his heirs and assigns forever, after my decease. a certain tract or piece of land lying upon Calf's Tongue Brook, where my old barn was. Furthermore, I give unto my son Edward the 1-2 of that aforesd. woodlott lying against Hazel Meadow, to him and his heirs forever, provided he pays 1-4 part of what is wanting in my moveable estate to make up my daughters' portions which I shall give them.
  • I give unto my daughter Amy œ30 besides what she has already had, to be paid unto her out of my moveable estate.
  • I give unto my other three daughters, Margaret, Lydia and Mary, œ40 to each of them, to be paid out of my moveable estate.
  • I appoint my wife Amy and son Timothy to be executors.

  • Richard Case, ls. Court Record, Page 17--16 July, 1746: The last will and testament of Richard Case, late of Simsbury, was now exhibited in Court by Amy Case and Timothy Case, executors. Will proven.
