Robert Harris, son of Mourning [Glenn] and Major Robert Harris (1696-1765), was born on 8 March 1741 in Hanover County, Virginia. He married Lucretia Brown on 1762 in Hanover County, Virginia. Lucretia had been born in 1746 in Albemarle County, Virginia. She was a daughter of Sarah and Benjamin Brown, Sr. of Albemarle County, Virginia. They had the following children: Elijah, Tyree Rodes, Bezeleel Brown, Bernice, Lucretia, Mourning, Nancy, Lucy, Robert, Patsey and Sarah. In 1777 Robert Harris was a Captain of the Virginia State Militia during the Revolutionary War. After the War, the Robert Harris family moved to Surry County, North Carolina. in 1779. In 1790 William Cooke and Robert Harris were appointed Commissioners to select a site for the Surry County, North Carolina, court house. Later Lucretia [Brown] Harris died in 1802 and Robert Harris died in 1809. Robert Harris wrote a Will on 10 July 1806 which was recorded during the May Term in 1809. An Inventory of the Robert Harris Estate was made 11 November 1809. He had 1700 acres of land, owned 10 Negro slaves, horses, cattle, hogs and sheep.

Deed abstracts concerning Robert Harris (the younger) and his wife Lucretia Brown, daughter of Benjamin Brown, a prominent citizen of Albemarle Co. and previously of Louisa Co. (quite wealthy, as he gave many of his children deeds of gift, some rather substantial).

Indenture...03 April 1762...Benjamin Brown,Fredericksville Parish,Albemarle Co.Va. to his daughter Lucretia Harris...for natural love and affection.. 400 acres on the branches of Doyles River and at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains..being land where Lucretia lived...bounded by John Statham's corner..near Benjamin Thurmond's line. Witnesses: James Harris; Christopher Harris; Wm.Brown and Benj. Thurmond. John Nicholas, Clerk Albemarle Court of May 26,1762.

Indenture...10 May 1770...Robert harris and Lucretia, his wife of Albemarle Co. Va . to William Cox of Orange Co. Va.90 pounds for 377 acres on the Doyles River near the Great Mountains. No witnesses. T. Woodson, Clerk.

Captain in Virginia State Militia during Revolutionary War Robert and Lucretia Brown Harris moved to Surry County, NC from Albemarle County Va. in abt 1770's. Robert's brother Tyree had already moved to Orange County where he was sheriff at the time of the Regulators.

I Robert Harris of the said county and state, being perfect senses and memory calling to mind the mortality of mankind and as it is appointed once for all men to die, I therefore ordain this to be my last will and testament and after paying all my just debts, what estate it hath pleased God to bless me with, I give and bequeath in manner and form following. First I give my soul to God who gave it and my body to the earth from whence it came, to be buried in such manner as my executors hereafter named shall think fit. Item - I give to my son Elijah Harris the land whereon I now live it being the balance of the land that I have a deed for from Robert Lanier, which I give to him and his heirs forever. Item - Whereas my son Tyree, son Bezebell Brown, my son Bernice and daughter Lucretia have received one hundred pound Virginia Money out of my estate and the rest of my children has not, namely Mouning Birch, Nancy Boon, the heirs of son Robert, Lucy and _______ the heirs of Patsy Tanner, and heirs of Sarah Blackwell, my will is that there be out of my estate one hundred pounds Virginia money a piece raised for them, except the heirs of Sarah Blackwell wh________ only fifty pounds, allowing the rest heirs above mentioned. To be equal to one legatee which legasees I give to them and their heirs forever. Item - I give to my granddaughter Milly Harris one horse and saddle, bed and furniture, to her heirs forever the rest of my estate be it of what denomination so ever to be sold whether real or personal and equally divided between the above named legatees, except Elijah, which takes no share but the land gave him. I constitute and appoint my sons Bezebel and Elijah to execute this my last will and testament revoking all other wills heretofore made. Signed sealed and acknowledged in presence of this tenth day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand eighteen hundred and six. Robert Harris Test______before signed Joseph Forkner Jesse?
