    • Samuel Doggett, although born in Weymouth, was probably taken to Marshfield when an infant.
    • The town of Marshfield paid him Is. 6d. on August 8, 1678, as a witness fee.
    • June 15, 1676, the town of Marshfield makes the following record:
    • At the said townsmeeting the inhabitants have voted Christopher Winter, constable, and he did refuse, being sent to, by the Governor by Samuel Doggett and the inhabitants have voted Mr. Nathaniel Thomas constable.
    • March 20, 1681, Samuel Doggett receives from his father one-half of all his lands in Middleboro’ and places adjacent, and in the instrument is called “my natural and well-beloved son.” [Plymouth Deeds, 6-27.]
    • Early in the following year he married Mary Rogers, whose father appears to have been proprietor of much landed estate.
    • February 6, 1683, his father deeds to him all his land which he then has in’ Marshfield, reserving to himself ‘‘the use during life;” in consideration of the love and fatherly affection he has for his natural and loving son. [Plymouth Deeds, 9-74.]
    • 1683, Samuel Doggett, “Transcribed on list of Freemen for Marshfield,” is a memorandum from a correspondent. The town records, giving the names of the townsmen, 1684, mention Samuel Doggett as one of the number.
    • June 2, 1685, constable for Marshfield.
    • June 1689, he was received and admitted as freeman at a court held at Plymouth.
    • August 23, 1689. Town meeting in Marshfield:
      • In pursuance of the order of the last court for the raising money for the present expedition against the barbarous enemy Indians, Samuel Doggett, Anthony Eames, Ephraim Little and John Foster promised to lend the town 20s apiece to be repaid again by the next town rate.
    • The Marshfield church records show: “Samuel Doggett adm. Into this church Feb 22, 1703.” Bathsheba Doggett wife of Samuel Doggett bapt and adm. into this church July 26, 1702.”
    • Boston June 28, 1695 — Received of Daniel White Constable of Marshfield 26£ 2s 6d in full of a warrant of same, by the hands of Mr. Samuel Doggett, I say received for Mr. James Taylor, Treas. DAVID JENNER.
    • Aug. 17, 1702, Samuel and brother John,‘* yeomen,” sell land in Middleboro’ to Dr Francis Le Barron, chirurgeon. [Plymouth Deeds, 8-258.]
    • Samuel Doggett was chosen tithingman March 20, 1703. February 25, 1708, chosen grand juryman.
    • In 1708 he owned sloop “Swan,” twenty tons.
    • April 3, 1710. The proprietors’ records of Marshfield show his rate for the proportioning of each proprietor’s share in the common lands as 16s. 3d.
    • Feb 26, 1710/11 Samuel Doggett, sen. Joseph Waterman, Joseph Rogers and John Truant, sell 4 lots of land, to Samuel Doggett Jr, for 13£ 10s. [Plymouth Deeds, 8-162.]
    • April 15, 1713 Samuel and his brother, sell 100 acres land in Plympton, to Wm. Shurtleff, for 44£. [Plymouth Deeds, 11-67.]
    • Part owner in sloop ‘‘Seaflower,” in 1714.
    • March 19, 1743, elected constable.
    • March 13, 1717. Town meeting. Samuel Doggett, collector of several persons’ rates:
      • Voted That Samuel Doggett be collector in north side of the South River for gathering 2 rates.” September 2, 1717. Town meeting:—
      • At said meeting the town accept of Samuel Doggett to serve in the stead of his son Samuel Doggett Jr in the office of constable in said town for the present year also that there be 1£ 5s added to the town rate forthwith to be made and paid to Samuel Doggett.
    • July 5, 1718. Samuel Doggett, Sen., and John Rogers, of Marshfield, joint owners of land originally belonging to right of Thomas Dogget, deceased, in 16s. purchase in Middleboro’, agree to divide and each take their portion equally. [Plymouth Deeds, 16-179.]
    • December 4, 1718. Samuel Doggett, Sen., and Thomas Doggett, of Marshfield, and Thomas Barker, of Pembroke, owners of the fifth lot in Major’s purchase, now in Pembroke, agree to divide. [Plymouth Deeds, 18-167.]
    • 1720, Samuel Doggett on grand jury.
    • In the burying-ground about the Congregational church at Marshfield, called Cedar Grove Cemetery, stands the gravestone of Samuel Doggett. It is of slate stone, about two inches thick, and stands on a knoll about twenty feet from the road and about one hundred feet from the church and facing it, on the side toward the railway station.
    • The head and foot stones are both in excellent state of preservation, and the headstone inscribed as follows:

    • First I commit my soul to God who gave it and my body to a decent buriall in hope of a Joyfull Resurrection to Eternal life through ye precious merits of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and for ye disposal of my outward estate my mind and will is that it shall be bestowed in such manner as in this my last will is set down.
    • Imprimis — I give and Bequeath ye use and improvement of all my Housing and lands whereon I now dwell and also my vally Lotts and my Cedar Swamp in ye Township of Pembroke to my beloved wife Bathsheba towards her livelihood for and during her widdowhood and also all my moveable estate whatsoever to be at her dispose for ye Payment of my Debts and funeral charges and what shall remain at her decease or second marriage to be by her disposed amongst my children as she shall see meet.
    • Item — I give and Bequeath to my son Samuel Doggett fourty and two acres of Land Lying in ye Township of Middleboro in ye 16 Shilling Purchase being ye 93 lott to Him and His heirs and assigns forever in full of his part or portion of my estate.

    • Item — I give and Bequeath to my sons Ebenezer Isaac and Seth Doggett and to their Respective Heirs and assigns forever in Equal Parts after ye second marriage or decease of my said wife all my Housing and Lands in Marshfield and also my Cedar Swamp in ye Township of Pembroke, they Paying ye several sums of money and other things hereafter expressed after my said wife’s decease or second marriage (that is to say).

    • Isaac and Seth Doggett shall find their three sisters Elizabeth, Lydiah and Abigail Doggett convenient Housing (that is to say) fire Room and firewood to all or such of them as shall remain unmarried as long as they shall live unmarried, and if any of them should be or Lame so as not to be capable to maintain themselves that they be maintained out of that real estate which I have given to my three sons, viz to Ebenezer, Isaac and Seth Doggett so long as they shall remain unmarried.
    • Lastly I nominate and appoint my said wife and my son Ebenezer Doggett to be executors of this my last will and testament hereby giving them full power to make sale of and give deeds of conveyance of all that my one halfe of a 60 acre Lott of Land Lying near to Joseph Stetson in ye Township of Pembroke toward ye payment of my debts and also it is my will that if either Ebenezer, Isaac or Seth Doggett should dye without Issue that his or their part of ye housing and Land I have given them shall belong to ye survivor or survivors of these three.
