About Capt. Samuel Whitehead
Biographical Summary:
Samuel Whitehead, Cambridge, 1635; an original proprietor at Hartford, where his home-lot before 1639 was on Main St., on what is now the south corner of Pearl and Main Streets; but he had sold part of it to Richard Lord, before Feb., 1639-40, and part to John Skinner. He served in the Pequot War, 1637, and received a grant of land for his services, in 1671; he removed to New Haven, where he was admitted freeman, and a member of the General Court, August 6, 1642; married May, 1676, Sarah, widow of John Gilbert, daughter of Thomas Gregson; died September 1690.

Samuel was an original founder and signer of the covenant to establish Wallingford Ct in 1670 although he did not reside there. He was on the committee to establish the boundaries between New Haven and Wallingford, 3/28/1673

Born by 1613 in England, married 1st wife by 3/10/1646/7, died Sept 1690, married 2nd Sarah Gregson widow Gilbert 5/9/1676. At her death in 1697 4 surviving children were named; John Gilbert 28, Thomas Gilbert @ 24, Samuel Whitehead 19, Stephen Whitehead @ 17.
