"The National Register Sons of the American Revolution" says, "The Whiteheads of New Jersey are descended from John Whiteheade, a 'Freeman' from New haven, Connecticut, where he was found, a prominent citizen, as early as 1630." The Whiteheads went from Connecticut to Essex County, NJ, then expanded into Morris County, immediately west. Essex County was created in 1683 and Morris County was created in 1739. Union County was created from Essex County in 1857 and Elizabeth is the county seat for Union County. Elizabeth was originally called Elizabethtown.
