Capt. Simon Gillespie was born circa August 14, 1774 in Virginia. His parents were Simon Gillespie, Sr. and Rebecca (Harvey) Gillespie.
Simon married Juliet Grinville (Holloway) Gillespie.
Simon married Elizabeth (Simpson) Gillespie circa 1796. Together they had the following children: Andrew Simpson Gillespie; Simon Gillespie; James Harvey Gillaspie; George Washington Gillespie; Rebecca Wilson (Gillespie) Young; Mary Hughes (Gillespie) Wilson; Nancy Jane (Gillaspie) Moody; Ann Elizabeth (Gillaspie) Bramlett; Armilda Gillaspie.
He died in 1835 in Mount Sterling, Montgomery Co, Kentucky.
He fought in the War of 1812. He appears on the 1820 census: 22110-00100-00. In 1824 he gave (his son) James H. Gillespie a power of attorney to sell land on Wilson's Creek in Allegheny County, Virginia. He had apparently inherited this land from his father, who died the previous year. He was then living in Montgmery County, Kentucky. (Morten, 130.)
