About George Washington Gillespie
He and his wife had 11 children. They left Kentucky about 1848 and moved to Cooper County, Missouri, then to Boone County, Missouri, then through Saint Joseph, Missouri to Kansas. They arrived in Kansas on 7 April 1855, then by 1857 moved into Pottowattomie County, Kansas, where George Gillespie founded and named the town of Saint George.
Two of their sons, John Newell Gillaspie and James Simpson Gillespie, moved on to Boulder, Colorado by about 1876, where they were engaged in silver mining. They were involved with the development of Aspen.
