Abbott says Theophilus was born about 1694; the Merwin genealogy says that Theophilus, age 4, was mentioned in the will of Theophilus Baldwin [his father] proved 22 June 1698. Removed to New Milford, Connecticut.

"History of the towns of New Milford & Bridgewater, Conn. 1803-1882" Capt. Theophilus Baldwin came from Milford on or before the year 1717. He was a single man and married Jerusha Beecher in 1722. His first land was laid to him in 1715 on Aspetuck Hill.

Jerusha & Theophilus Baldwin became members of the Church of Christ in New Milford in 1726. Enoch Buck sold to Theophilus Baldwin "one half a meadow 1st on Mount Tom Meadow" in 1729 for 200 good chestnut rails. He later sold this land to Hezekiah & Ebenezer Baldwin. In Oct. 1738, he was appointed Captain of the First Company in New Milford.

He gave 1 acre of land to James Hine for him to be a Smith for New Milford.
