Biography

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Green-410

Thomas Greene was born abt.1630 of father Thomas Green and mother Elizabeth Unknown in Toppesfield, Essex, England. His christening record has not been found but his siblings were all christened there as was his father and his aunts and uncles.

He married in 1653 at Malden, Massachusetts (Middlesex), Rebecca Hills. She was baptized Maldon, Essex, England, 20 April 1634, died 16 June 1674, the daughter of Joseph Hills and his wife, Rose Clark.[1] Rebecca Hills' sister, Mary Hills, married John Waite. In his 13 (12) 1671 will, Thomas Green named overseers "my Bror John Green & my Bror Waite."[2]

Thomas Green died Malden, Middlesex County, Massachusetts,13 Feb 1671/72, [3][4] leaving a will dated 13 February 1671/1672, proved on 2 April 1672. He gave his wife Rebecca 1/3 of his estate, and made her his executrix, the rest of his estate went to his four children: Rebecca, Hannah, Thomas and Samuel.[5]

Children

  1. Rebecca (Greene) Newhall (1654 - 1725). Married Thomas Newhall
  2. Thomas (Greene) Green (abt. 1655 - 1674) unmarried
  3. ? Hannah Greene (abt. 1658 - abt. 1659)
  4. Hannah (Green) Vinton (1659 - 1740) Married John Vinton
  5. Samuel Green (1670 - 1736) Married Elizabeth Upham

Research Notes

This is NOT the Thomas Green who was on the ship's register for both the Planter and the Hopewell in 1635 apparently alone and as a 15 year old, placing his birth about 1620. His entry on the Hopewell listed him as "Son of George"[6] while his entry the Planter simply listed his name and age.[7]

In fact it is not clear if that young man ever traveled to New England and while records in Roxbury, Massachusetts and another Thomas Green of Malden who married Margaret Call and seemingly Elizabeth Webb have been identified as possible candidates, it was definitely not THIS Thomas "jr" who was only about 5 years old in 1635. Anderson in "Great Migration" discusses this scenario as well and thinks that the 15-year old never appeared in New England.[8]
