He married "Joan Unknown" and had 2 children, John Thomas Boddie and William Boddie. The earliest ancestor in the Bodie family according to Ancestry.com is Jean Budd, a native of Normandy, France. He was born there in 1508, but a few years later he migrated to England. He had a son, William Boddie, born in 1526 in Essex England, so he assumed the English spelling of the name. William was married to a young lady named Joan, but he died as a young adult in 1557 in Portsmouth, England.[2]

According to the book "SEVENTEENTH CENTURY, ISLE OF WIGHT COUNTY VIRGINIA Volume I & 2, by John Bennett Boddie III 1938" William Boddie was a Captain in the Navy during the time of Henry VIII, is the first of this family in Essex from whom the Boddie family is traced. He was stationed at Portsmouth according to the Visitations, which is verified by a letter from his son John who says he served in the Navy for 40 years.
