About Capt. William Browne, Jr.
Seen as husband of Elizabeth Browne
William Browne, son of Lieutenant-Colonel William Browne, of "Four Mile Tree," Surry county, and his wife Mary Browne; was born in 1671. He married Jane Meriwether, daughter of Nicholas Meriwether; justice in 1693 and for many years later, becoming in 1710 presiding justice of Surry county. His will dated July 3, 1746, was proved in Surry, January 19, 1747.

Named to commission of the Governor 20 Dec 1710.
A deed of 3 Dec 1695, recorded in Surry, states that William Browne Jr. is son and heir of Mrs. Mary Brown and is the only heir of Col. Henry Browne.
Will dated 3 July 1746, presented in court 19 Jan 1747.
The names of his issue were in his will and/or his father's (from 1705). He apparently survived all his children, mentioning only grandchildren and great-grandchildren in his will.
Son William died in 1744, Surry Co. His wife was Mary and they had 4 children.
His only son, William (1739-86), lived at Four Mile Tree, as did this Wm's son William (1759-1799).
Son Henry died 1734, had a plantation on the Blackwater River, and had 5 children.

1704 Rent Roll shows Capt. Wm. B. and his father Col. Wm. both in Surry County. There are in all 12 Brownes, and 19 Browns (no "e") on the list.
Origins
William Browne prepared his will 4 December 1704.Here is an abstract:
- To other grandchildren, Walter Flood, Fortune Flood, Mary Flood, Wm. Browne, Jane Browne, Mary Jordan the younger, and William Blunt 40 shillings apiece.
- Rest of estate to son William Browne, and make him Exer. and whereas my son, William Browne, is now gone for England and it is uncertain how it may please God to deal with him and that he may die before he returns to possess estateGod forbid, if he should dieto my son Wm. Browne all my land I have at Blackwater.
- Daughter Jane Browne, wife of William Browne, ten pounds.
- To granddaughter Jane Browne, wife of William Browne, daughter of William and Jane Browne, eighty pounds when 18 or married.
- Grandsons William and Henry Browne, sons of Wm. and Jane Browne.
