Capt. William Garrard

William Garrard, first child of Governor James Garrard, was born in Stafford County, Virginia, April 20, 1771. He was twelves years of age when his parents settled in Bourbon County, Kentucky.

He was clerk of the Bourbon County Court for many years and represented that county in Kentucky House of Representatives in 1793, 1796-1800, and again in 1822.

His company of twelve months Light Dragoons, "The Bourbon County Blues,' was first called the Bourbon County Company of Mounted Rangers and was first advertised to be formed May 1, 1812.

Detached from the River Raisin force, "The Bourbon Blues" served under Major James V. Ball in reducing the Indian Villages along the Mississinewa River.

married January 20, 1818, Susan Dalyrmple Peers, daughter of Major Valentine Peers. She was born at Waterside, Loudoun County, Virginia, September 7 1794, and died at her home near Paris March 8, 1838.

To them were born: William Mountjoy Garrard, born in Paris i818, and died at Hot Springs, Arkansas, in 1892. He married Matilda Ann Coburn, of Maysville, Kentucky

Eleanor Orr Garrard born in 1821, married Joseph H. Holt, of Arkansas

Elizabeth Garrard born Oct 18, 1829 married John A. Lyle of Paris
