NORTH CAROLINA CAPTAIN MILITIA REV WAR REVOLUTIONARY SOLDIER

Burial: Greensburg Cemetery Greensburg St. Helena Parish Louisiana, USA

William Kendrick was a Captain in the North Carolina Militia, American Revolutionary War.

1755 - 1838 Capt. William Kendrick is buried in the Greensburg Cemetery. He was a member of the North Carolina Militia, and a prominent farmer in St. Helena Parish. The lot on which the St. Helena Parish courthouse now stands was donated by Kendrick for parochial purposes, in 1830. Street near courthouse was named Kendrick until approximately 1973 when changed to Hamberlin Street. The marker was placed by the Alexander Stirling Chapter DAR in 1976. (See Media)

Directions: South of Highway 10 about 3/4 miles east from Greensburg, La.. You will need a guide.

One neighbor stated that about 24 years ago the tombstones were all broken by vandals. Wm. Kendrick's remains had been moved to Greensburg, La. and re-interred in the William Lafayette Tillery burial plot. William Kendrick was a Rev. Soldier and has a military marker plus a bronze memorial.

There are a few depressions indicating where graves might have been; also an occasional brick here and there, and the person who showed us where the cemetery is stated that he remembered when a brick vault stood there and stated he knew for a fact the vault was torn away and used in house building. Perhaps if the whole area was raked and cleared away, a few pieces of markers could be found.
