GEDCOM Note

Notes From High in Old Virginia's Piedmont William, Thomas, Presley Neville and Agnes O'Bannon are mentioned in this book numerous times. I will list only a significant passage for each one. pg 4 In 1770 Elias Edmonds sold 400 acres of his children's inheritance to William O'Bannon, his wife's cousin. Later, in 1800, William bought an adjoining 153 acres of the Ball tract from Captain Edmond's son Elias. Notes From O'Bannon Family History: Wiliam O'Bannon married Anne Neville, said to have been a sister of General Presley Nevile. William's will was approved in Fauquier County on 27 October 1807. Ann O'Bannon died in 1824. They are buried about one mile west of Marshall, VA (a tombstone marks Williams grave) in the O'Bannon-Lawrence-Utterback Cemetery.. The cemetery is about 50 yards from the ruins of William O'Bannon's home and is locally known as "the Lawrence home." William received from his father, John, the "plantation and lands on East side of Pignut Ridge, whereon he formerly lived." This indicates that he was living on his plantation near the present town of Marshall in 1774 (when his father's will was proved). Elias Edmonds, of Leeds Parish, Gent. and Betty, his wife, sold to William O'Bannon, Jun'r. a part of a tract, containing 400 acres, granted to Capt. James Ball late of Lancaster Co., Va., commonly called the Horsepen Tract, in 1770. On 23 April 1800 Elias Edmonds, Sen'r. and Frances, his wife, sold to William 153 acres adjoining that which he purchased in 1770. This was bounded by the main road, Pepper's lines, corner to Capt. Joseph Smith and a corner to Utterback. On 19 May 1792 the Rev. Denny Fairfax, heir of Lord Fairfax, leased a parcel of land, No. 306, a part of the Manor of Leeds bounded by Carters Run, Thomas White's lot and James Strother's lot.. 117 acres, for his life and the lives of his sons: Alexander, Presley and William. His last purchase was on 26 August 1805 when Thomas and Daniel Turflinger, exors. of Henry Turflinger, dec'd, sold to him 364 acres which Henry T. had purchased from Samuel Pepper. Pepper's tract laid where the town of Marshall is now located.
