In memory of / Augustus Blanchard, Esq. / Who departed this life / Feb. 27 AD 1809 / In the 63rd year of his age / Of noble men, of mental energy / active & vigorous; As husband & Parent he was tender & affectionate / As a neighbor & friend, obliging & honorable, / As a magistrate just; / As a citizen in various elective offices / Faithful & zealous; As a companion affable & courteous. / With him dwell hospitality & ever / sound endearment. / We mourn his sudden exit. / Nor public prayers, nor friendships tears, / could shield him from the uplifted hand of / death. Let not the wise in wisdom glory / Nor let the mighty glory in their might / No human power nor excelence can ere disarm ...(the rest under grass)
