Born 26 Mar 1800, in Spartanburg, Co., SC, Giles Autry was the son of Alexander Autry (born 1760), NC; died in 1826, in KY and the grandson of Capt. John Autry (born in 1735, in NC; killed and scalped by Indians on 2 Feb 1788, in Wilkes Co., GA) . Giles Autry was married in Ohio Co., KY, on 28 Mar 1822, to Letitia Ruth Miller. Born 26 Mar 1803, in Ohio Co., KY, Letitia was the d/o John D. Miller (who signed the marriage bond). Giles, who was administrator of his father Alexander's wil l in Ohio Co., on 26 Mar 1826, left KY in the late 1830's and moved his family to Scott Co., IL. He remained there until his migration to Marion Co., IA, in 1844. (On the 1840 census in IL his surname is spelled "Otery," and on the 1850 censu s of IA, it is "Awtry.") Giles Autry died on 11 May 1866, and Letitia on 15 May 1878, both in Marion Co., IA, where they are buried in Sand Ridge Cem. (Section 12), Lake Prairie Twp. Giles and Letitia Miller Autry were the parent of 10 children.
