and wife, Jane and children.
John Chilton is listed as being born in 1640, Kent County, England. His will was proved on
April 29, 1708. He died before February 25, 1707 when his will was probated. In his will John's 5 children are named and wife, Jane. It was stated that John died in Lancaster County, Virginia.
John and his 2 brothers arrived in Virginia by 1660.
John Chilton was appointed in 1687 for horse service in the county militia.
In 1668, the son of John Chilton was listed on the Lancaster County, VA tithable list.
In 1690's the son of John Chilton, also named John Chilton moved to Westmoreland County. He first
appears in court records on 24 November 1697, as a planter in Cople Parish. By 1699 the son, John
Chilton had acquired extensive property, which included the junction of Currioman Creek with the Potomac,
By 1700 John Chilton had 3 tithes, for Lancaster County, VA.
In 1703 John Chilton sold his home plantation to Robert Carter, moved to Westmoreland County where
he died 4 years later.
