Captain, 12th Regiment, United States Army; 7th Regiment, New York State Militia, Company K. Born in New York City, he joined the 7th Regiment as a sergeant at the onset of the Civil War and fought his way through Baltimore to Washington He soon resigned from the 7th, and on 14 May 1861, joined the 12th Regiment, United States Army, as a first lieutenant. He served in the Peninsula Campaign during the Seven Days Battle, was promoted to captain on 20 December 1862 and was severely wounded on the second day of fighting at Gettysburg (02 July 1863). He resigned on 09 September 1863. His last residence was the Park Avenue Hotel.
