Valentine was born to William Allen (b.1692 in York Co., Virginia - d. 1752) and Mary Hunt Allen (1695-1763). On 26 February 1753 he married Nancy Ann Arnold.

Valentine Allen, b. St. James Parish, Henrico Co., Va., 13 March 1727 according to Ref-Boddie he was born 29 Apr. 1730 in Goochland Co., Va.), d. Rockingham Co., N.C., 17 Sept. 1799 Ref-Boddie, bur. Henrico Co., Va. Ref-Boddie : "Lt. Col. Valentine Allin, son of Mary (Hunt) and Capt. William Allin, was born March 28, 1730, in Goochland County, Va., and died Sept. 17, 1798, in Rockingham County, N.C. He married Feb. 25, 1753, Nancy (Anne) Arnold, the daughter of William Arnold. Valentine moved to Rockingham County, N.C., where he served as a Lieutenant Colonel, North Carolina Troops, Quartermaster, during the Revolution. Ref-DAR, [1] He made his will August 18, 1797, recorded 1798. His legatees were children: Mary Peay wife Nancy. Also 'To daughter Mary Peay's children that she had by her former husband, John Chadwell, Decd m. Cumberland Co., Va., 26 Feb 1753

Valentine Allen and his wife lived on the Dan River near Long Island Ford. The Allen family cemetery is located on the Motsinger farm near the Dan River and near the original homesite of Valentine and Nancy Allen.

Valentine Allen was the first of the Allen family to reside in Rockingham County. Virginia. In 1790, only seven slave holders had more than 20 slaves. Valentine Allen was one of the seven with 28 slaves, which indicates that he was a wealthy Planter on a large scale with a large plantation. The earliest records found on this Allen family were in Charles City , Virginia.

Valentine was 3rd of 9 children born to William Allen. His father was Captain William Allen, born about 1690. William Allen married Mary Hunt. She was born May 15, 1695 and died March 8, 1763 in Buckingham County, Virginia. William's will names nine children; the third child being named Valentine Allen. He was born about 1730 and married Ann (Nancy) Arnold February 26, 1753 Ref-VMR

The exact date Valentine Allen and his wife moved to Rockingham County is not known, but he was well-established there long before 1790. Valentine Allen served with the North Carolina Troops in the Revolutionary War Ref-DAR.
