Death of Captain William Wells.— Much .regret will be felt at the death -of Captain William Wells, who died from a painful internal disease at the residence of his married daughter North Adelaide, on Saturday evening, at the age of 64 years,. He was one of the identities of the Port, and indeed widely known in the -shipping circles of the colonies, and although never prominent in any public matter he was a most useful man in private enterprises. Originally he served on board a man-of-war in the good old days, and in the early fifties settled down in Port Adelaide where he first came into special notice by being a party to floating the Young Australian steam tug, which had been stranded at the Carpenters, near Cape Northumberland. On bringing the disabled vessel to the Port she was refitted, and the result of her towage in Port Adelaide enabled Captain Wells to go to England for another boat. He'then brought oat the Eleanor, and after working her for a time she was absorbed into a Company, and he left seagoing to settle down on shore, having still an interest in vessels, which kept him well-occupied.

For several years he was a partner with Mr. H. W. Thompson in a well-establshed ship chandiery business at Port Adelaide. He lately took a trip on an important mission to Sydney. He was highly respected as a shrewd energetic business man as well as a thoroughly practically seaman. He was twice married, and leaves a widow and a grown-up famiiy.
