Karl Kupelwieser war Sohn des damals berühmten Malers Leopold Kupelwieser. Sein jüngerer Bruder Paul Kupelwieser war Stahlmanager der Witkowiker Eisenwerke des Albert Rothschild und „Entdecker und Zivilisator“ der Brioni-Inselgruppe. Karl trat dem Aktienkonsortium der Teplitzer Walzwerke bei, deren Leitung sein Schwager Karl Wittgenstein übernommen hatte. Das Konsortium erwarb bald darauf das Eigentum der Böhmischen Montangesellschaft und die Stimmenmehrheit der Prager Eisenindustrie-Gesellschaft. Karl fungierte im Konsortium als juristischer Beirat. Dadurch erwarb er großen Wohlstand.

Seine Frau Bertha Kupelwieser war eine geborene Wittgenstein, eine damals sehr vermögende Familie in Österreich. Karl war somit der Schwager von Karl Wittgenstein und der Onkel von Ludwig Wittgenstein, dem bekannten Philosophen. Ihr Sohn Hans Kupelwieser war ein bekannter Zoologe und Meeresbiologe, der sich allerdings nach 1918 nur mehr der wirtschaftlichen Entwicklung des väterlichen Gutes in Lunz widmen konnte.

Karl Kupelwieser (also Dr. jur. Carl Kupelwieser written), (* 30. October1841 in Vienna, † 16. September1925) was lawyer, Mäzen and large game hunter (e.g. Elephant in India). His Mrs. Berta Kupelwieser was born joke gene stone, an at that time very wealthy family in Austria. Karl was thus the uncle of Ludwig joke gene stone, the well-known philosopher. Her son Dr. Hans Kupelwieser was a well-known zoologist. Karl became 86 years old.

Karl Kupelwieser was son of the then famous painterLeopold Kupelwieser. Older brother of Paul Kupelwieser, the former steel manager of the Witkowiker of iron works Albert Rothschild and Wiederentdecker of the Brioni Inselgruppe. Karl became wealthy yard lawyer and had a large interest in scientific research. It particularly maintained the friendship with the Ichthyologen Rudolf Kner. The Ichthyologie (Gr., Syn. Fish customer) is a partial discipline of biology. It is the science of the biology of the fish under natural and artificial conditions. Karl was among other things Supervisory board of the Böhmi Montangesellschaft and iron industry company with seat in Prague and bought beside other goods (like e.g. Well Pyhra and property Kyrnberg with pc.-polarized) 1897 the count von Festetics von Tolna one of its properties, the lock property sea-yard in Lunz at the lake off. The sea-yard was a developed auxiliary building of the famous Kartause Gaming. The market municipality Lunz (district Scheibbs) is appropriate for a Danube feeder to the Ybbs; approx. 100 km southwest from Vienna. Here went among other things a Adolf Hitler times to the school. Karl was founder of the institute for radium research and the biological station Lunz at the lake. First in the lock accommodated, he knows this Institut a small gatekeeper's house on his lock area too. To 1920 the Kupelwiesers financed these institutes. It became honour member of the Austrian Academy of Science. 2003 decided the academy the locking of this station in Lunz.
