Carl Alexander Longfellow

Carl was a farmer and tiling contractor who lived in the Lenox - Clearfield, Iowa area. Carl made a good income from his ditch digging and tiling work, which business his oldest son, Jerry continues. His obituary, assumed to be from Bedford Times-Press:

"Last Rites Held Feb. 25 for Carl Longfellow

Funeral services for Carl A. Longfellow, 59, of Lenox, held February 25 at Shum-Novinger Funeral Home in Bedford, were conducted by Carl Cummings. Mr. Longfellow died February 23, 1972 at Greater Community Hospital in Creston. Interment was at Fairview Cemetery.

Carl A. Longfellow, son of Henry W. and Alta Nash Longfellow, was born September 5, 1912 near Clearfield, Iowa in Taylor County.

He attended the public schools of Taylor County and Conway High School.

On April 26, 1938 he was united in marriage to Ruth Opal Snyder and to them were born two sons and three daughters to bless their home and share thier love.

Carl had lived his entire life in Taylor County Iow where he had been engaged in farming.

He was preseded in death by his wife, Ruth Opal Longfellow in 1954, his father, Henry W. Longfellow, in 1964.

Left to cherish memories are his mother, Alta; his children; Jerry and his wife Jeannette; Paul; Linda and her husband, Rolland Grindstaff; Julia and her husband, Dean Day; Alice and her husband, steve Schieffer; ten grandchildren, Joan, Jeffery, John, Craig, Kyle, Jesse Warren, Danny, Dawn Michelle, Angela and Chrisata; a sister, Mary C. Hunter; two brothers, Wilson and Ivan Longfellow; uncles, aunts, other relatives and many friends.

Carl was a kind and considerate, son, brother, father and friend and he will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him."
