About Carl Petersson Nyman
Nyman, Carl Petersson
- * c. 1694
- oo 1715-07-17, banns of marriage.
- † 1737-09-19
Apprentice at the wig maker Reincke 1708. Accepted into the Svea artilleriregemente in April 1714, underfyrverkare, sergeant 1717. Participated with the Armfelt's Karoliner during their retreat from Norway over the mountains in the winter 1719 where his both feet caught frostbite. Discharged 1719.
Backman (1995, 255) explains that the Nymans rose slightly above the "average" boatswains. Carl could read and write, and that his signature on the mothers probate (Swedish: bouppteckning), was clear and beautiful. He abandoned wigmaking in favor of Svea artilleriregemente where he thrived in the art of artillery, advancing to the rank of sergeant in just three years, indicative of certain qualities. Wedded at a camp for the Svea artilleriregemente (Artilleriregementet (old)) in Roslagen, Sweden.
