About Caroline L. Markwood (Whitefield)
Daughter of John Whitefield of Germany.
28 May 1863 in Adams county, Miss Caroline Whitefield married Henry Markwood, who worked as a teamster. The family lived in Ursa, Illinois. The 1880 census, taken two years after Henry Markwood had died, shows children: William, Edward, Charles, and Minnie. Mrs. Markwood did not remarry.
The Quincy Daily Journal, Saturday, December 7, 1918; page 5.
SHE'S GRANDMOTHER TO FOUR SOLDIER BOYS
Mrs. Caroline Markwood of Ursa is kept pretty busy writing letters to her four soldier boys in France, for there are that many grandsons over there who write to her often in remembrance of a certain cooky jar in grandma's pantry, and the hopes of getting glimpses of that cooky jar some day again, around Christmas time.
The boys are Julius, Robert, Alvin, and Elmer Markwood, also of Ursa.
